I currently hold the Industry Canada Basic class of licence, which allows use of frequencies above 30 MHz, but am slowly teaching myself code in order to cross the 5 wpm threshold to gain access to the full HF bands since Canada removed the 12 wpm requirement in May of 2001.
One of the best things I have found since getting my ticket is the IRLP (Internet Radio Linking Project) . For those who may be out of range of it, IRLP links repeaters all over the world by internet connection using Voice over Internet Protocols (VOIP). This allows real time communication between distant repeater systems, by using DTMF tones to turn connections on and off. For more information, go to the home of IRLP
Other interests are homebrew antenna building, and of course emergency communications. I am a member of the emergency communications group in the North Shore Amateur Radio Club and the emergency management group for the North and West Vancouver Emergency Program. This emergency management team is tasked with operating the EOC, advising the local Municipal government officials on EOC operations, providing technical assistance and support for EOC and other emergency functions.
Rather than provide the usual list of outdated links, I'll only give you a couple to choose from here:
1) Radio Amateurs of Canada
2) eQSL - Electronic QSL cards - Immediate gratification! I like it...
3) eHAM.net great collection of interesting ham radio stuff
