Welcome to all my fellow ham operators!

CQ CQ de VE7CLJ....

Amateur radio is full of excitement and it is a nice hobby that allow one to communicate with other people that they do not personally know. I recall watching people carrying portable radio around when I was young, and from that moment on I decided to learn more about radio...

I was very young when I received my qualification in England (The Radio Amateurs Examination Certificate, City and Guilds, UK) but I did not immediate apply for a callsign because shortly after this examination our family moved to Vancouver, Canada.

Later I came across the Radio Amateurs of Canada web site and it made me interested to get properly licensed and start to pursue my hobby! I study for the Basic Qualification material and eventually took the exam about three weeks later.

So here comes my radio callsign, VE7CLJ. I was very happy to make my first contact with a ham operator in the Vancouver area via VE7RBY repeater using my two-metre HT...

Now, there are 3 callsigns under my name: VE7CLJ, VA7CLJ and VA7CYC

Europe Trip 2000

I brought my VX-5R with me when I went to Europe in May/June 2000. This rig has proven very useful: I used it to talk to ham operator along the road, as well as keeping myself occupied (listening to FM broadcast) in hotel rooms. Since this rig gives me access to the shortwave as well, I often listened to BBC World too.

I am pleased to meet DG1RSN, Sven, and DD6SE, Claus, who were very kind and showed me around Berlin, Germany... We visited many places that I wouldn't be able to get to by public transport.

QSL de DD6SE...

In Munich, I visited the Deutsches Museum (Grid: JN58TD) and I found out an amateur radio station inside the building! I worked some European station using the HF rig... The operator-on-duty is DK3LC, Gerd, who doesn't speak English... I had a great time with him, since we are both "ham-literate" ^_^
