Comments: | Delivered a presention on the ARES to the Simcoe County
Fire Chiefs Association on September 18, 2001. Well received with
positive expectations for future involvement.
Co-ordinators attended a planning meeting to develop strategies and programs. Priorities and assignments determined. Commenced training for ARES Response and NTS traffic training on Sept. 24/01 - 4 sessions prior to year end are planned for delivery by - Greg - KC8KUG/VE3 and Ken - VA3KEW. Supported the local Terry Fox Run on September 16, 2001. Operators arrived in Midland at 0800, setup the NCS and started dispatching communicators to the route checkpoints by 0900. Provided assistance to event coordinators, participants, aided in locating a misplaced child, in addition to the dispatch of needed items to the checkpoints, and passing messages back and forth from the event coordinator to various points along the route. Support from VE3SQT - Richard, VE3REK - Darren, VA3KNR - Doug, VA3KEW - Ken, VE3VKO - Jim, VA3LAH - Derrick, VE3UJK - John, VE3CBA - Don, VE3WW - Bob, VA3DEG - Don, KC8KUG - Greg, & VE3LKI - Mike. Continuing to determine potential involvement in National SET in November, 2001. Likely in Digital modes on HF (PSK31) and VHF (Packet/APRS) NTS Liason Station - Ken - VA3KEW, no traffic to / from ARES group to the OSN and the OPN. Digital Communications developed in area. Local Packet Digi - REKDIG - provided by Darren - VE3REK, as well as a Packet BBS - VE3REK-1, presently on 145.070 MHz. Newer version of software being installed. Potential for an area node. Continued interest being shown in APRS for ARES work as well. Local plans and frequencies TBD. Local stations now operating on PSK31, SSTV, RTTY. ARES data updated on local club website and ARES website weekly |
