Well, it had to happen sometime!
I've just upgraded my primary HF radio to a
Yaesu FT-1000MP Mark 5 Field!
One truly awesome radio!

In the past, I have been a serious fan of Kenwood radios!
However, my Kenwood TS-940sat has taken 2nd place to my FT1000MP Mark 5 Field!

with the matching SP-940 speaker

and the SM-220 monitor scope

One sidenote for owners of the TS-940s is
that this radio has a problem with the
thermistor used to turn the fan on and off
(the one located directly behind the power supply).

The stock thermistor has a nasty tendency
to turn on only after the power supply has
heated up to an equivalent temperature
of the sun! My fix ... and the one that
I have passed on to many friends who own
the 940, is to remove the plug where the
thermistor goes, and install a 1000 ohm
resistor across the plug pins, which
"fools" the circuit into thinking that
it is time to turn on.
Yes, this means that the fan is on
full time, but it is not noisy.

For going
mobile, I use a TS-440sat.

It fits perfectly between the front
seats of my Ford Explorer!

I would truely LOVE to add the 599 twins to my shack!

For working AM, I listen on my Hammarlund HQ-170
reciever, which has grrrreat audio,

and transmit using this faithful old Heathkit DX-100

The DX-100 uses a pair of 1625's to modulate
a pair of 6146 finals.

Have a look at my audio pages to get an idea
of how I am driving the DX-100!!
