I met my first "Elmer" when I was around 12. In case you don't
know, an "Elmer" is a HAM who's been around many years
and likes to share their knowledge with younger HAMS.
He is now (God rest his soul) a silent key.
I can remember spending countless hours with him listening to CW
and phone on the HF bands. Sometimes he'd even let me get on the
radio on phone and chat with other HAMS.

So ... that was that ... and I was HOOKED!

I have to say that having an Elmer available to spread the word
about the hobby, and help educate younger people is critical
to allowing our hobby to survive and grow.
I try to make myself available to anyone who shows an interest
in the hobby or wants more information about it.

Truly, the younger generation is *the* driving force
that will save our bands and our hobby.

So please ... BE AN ELMER!

By the time I reached my 14th birthday, I was already into CB (GRS) radio
learning about transceivers, microphones and audio, linears and antennas.
Throughout high school, and then college, I studied electronics with special
emphasis on digital communications and networking.
I am currently working as a Systems Analyst for the Government of Ontario.

I currently hold my advanced ticket.

I'm no longer involved in high speed Packet radio
or the Toronto Packet Group.
