Chinese Cultural Club – Newsletters Archive – Subject: Chinese food at meetings, karaoke – May 5, 2004

Dear CCC members,                                                                              Wednesday, May 5, 2004.

CCC wishes to remind all members that our next scheduled meeting is tomorrow (Thursday, May 6, 2004) as usual in room 228 at 3:10pm after school.  We invite and encourage all members to attend.

Chinese Food at meetings:

The Chinese Cultural Club is pleased to announce that food is permitted at our meetings, as discussed during our last meeting.  In our initiative to make our meetings more welcoming and exciting for all our members, we have decided to invite any member who wishes to share Chinese food to bring some in during our future meetings.  That will enable all members to share, enjoy and experience Chinese food.

In order to maintain a clean and hygienic environment for the school, our staff will bring a plastic bag at the meetings.  Please ensure that all garbage goes in the bags and are disposed of properly in the halls or outside the school.

In any case, we invite you to bring in some great Chinese food, or some snacks or any food you want to share with members to our meetings, as of tomorrow!

Karaoke:

The Karaoke Night has been a great success on the evening of April 30, 2004.  Although we did not sell tickets, and offered free admission, we had over a hundred in attendance in the cafeteria.  We hope you all enjoyed the event, however, if you were unable to make it, no problem!  A video clip of Mr. Chow singing and photos are available on our web site at http://www.markvilleccc.cjb.net by clicking on “Pictures” then “Karaoke Night” to view pictures.  Click on the video link to view the video on the top of the Karaoke Night pictures page.

The Chinese Cultural Club wishes to organize an even better karaoke night in the near future.  A possible date is Friday, May 14, 2004.  However, the specific details of the event will be discussed at tomorrow’s meetings in order to involve more members and get your opinions on what you think should happen.  So join us at tomorrow at our meeting!

We have surveyed several visitors and generally, it seems that selling ticket at the door for approximately 50˘ seems a great idea.  As well, selling drinks also seems be profitable.  In any case, discuss your ideas and opinions tomorrow at our meeting or e-mail them to [email protected] or contact a CCC president.

Dragon Boat Festival:

The dragon boat festival, held annually in many cities around the world to celebrate an official in ancient China will be taking place this year in Toronto on June 19 – 20, 2004 at Centre Island (Toronto Islands).  We will discuss tomorrow’s meeting (or in the future) to see if members wish to do anything, i.e. food items at school, or a field trip.  Interest members may also go individually to watch the show downtown.  Please discuss your ideas at tomorrow’s meeting, talk to a CCC president or send us an e-mail to [email protected].

Reference/thank you Letters:

The Chinese Cultural Club’s administrative team has decided to offer a reference/thank you letters to all our members who attended at least one (1) of our meetings and/or one (1) of our events.  The reason is because several of our members has signed up and did not attend any of our meetings or events; therefore, we believe they should not be eligible for a letter.  Should you have any comments or suggestions about this, please express them during tomorrow’s meeting or e-mail them to [email protected]

The letter will outline the meetings and events you have attended.  Please note that our attendance record for the Chinese New Year event was not complete (Wednesday, January 14, 2004); therefore, if you have volunteered during that event during one or more of the periods for calligraphy contest or marble pick-up challenge, please let Edward Choi know or send an e-mail to [email protected].  We apologize for any in-conveniences caused.

Thank you for your kind attention.  We look forward to see you at tomorrow’s meeting!

Yours sincerely,

Markville's Chinese Cultural Club  (Edward Choi, Johnson Tse & Simon Wong)
