Chinese Cultural Club – Newsletters Archive – Subject: Welcome – December 15, 2003

Dear new members,                                                                                                                                                                                   December 15, 2003.

Thank you for visiting our booth at the multi-cultural fair last week and joining our club.  We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and give you some general insight about the Chinese Cultural Club.

Meeting:

Our first meeting will be held this coming Thursday (December 18, 2003).  Subsequent meetings will be held every other Thursday, excluding school holidays.  Meetings will be at room 228, in the Geography department.  All meetings start at 3:10pm and ends at approximately 3:30pm.  All members are expected to attend meetings.  Should you have other arrangements during any of our meeting dates, you may conveniently obtain a copy of our meeting minutes via e-mail to [email protected], and will be posted on our new web site as it becomes available in the near future.

Registration:

We thank you to all those who have signed up during the multi-cultural fair.  Some of the members have not completed the entire form, with emphasis on the SAC card number.  Please note that having a SAC card is a requirement of the Markville Student Activity Council in order to join any club at Markville.  Cost of club activities are funded through SAC card sales.  When you register, you must complete the SAC card number and show one of our representatives (Edward Choi, Simon Wong or Johnson Tse).  Anyone who has missing details on their form may complete it during our first meeting.  If you do not have a SAC card, you may purchase one at the student store (located across the office and café) during lunch period 2, 3, and 4.  A SAC card enables you to enjoy as much clubs as you like, discounts on YRT services, library usage, and more.  Please bring your SAC card at our first and all meetings.

If any of your friends attending Markville are interested in joining the Chinese Cultural Club, they are more than welcome.  Registration services are available at any of our meetings.  Be sure that they bring a valid SAC card.  So bring all your friends to enjoy the fun, excitement and discovery the Chinese Cultural Club offers!

About the club:

The goal of the Chinese Cultural Club at Markville is to raise awareness of the Chinese culture and contribute to the Chinese Community across Markham and the Greater Toronto Area (through charity, community services, etc.)  Our meetings will possibly include presentations about the Chinese culture, fun stuff and community events information, in which we may wish to participate in.  However, it is up to you!  So let us know what you think and want to do at our meeting or via e-mail.

The founders of the club are Edward Choi, Simon Wong, and Johnson Tse.  Our teacher advisors are Mr. Chow and Ms. Reid.

Sharing the Chinese Culture:

Would you like to share you knowledge about the Chinese culture to other interested members?  Or perhaps you may want to practise your research and presentation skills.  In any case, if you wish to make a presentation at one or more of our meetings, you are most welcomed to do so.  Simply send us an e-mail or ask during one of our meetings and we will schedule a meeting for you.  Please note that if you require presentation equipment/assistance, it is recommended that you do so at least a week prior to the presentation.  We cannot guarantee the availability of any specific equipment; however, we will make every possible effort to have it available for you.
