The Chinese Cultural Club wishes you all a happy and safe Easter holiday!

Meeting Reminder:

Please note that there will be a CCC meeting tomorrow after school as scheduled (Thursday, April 8, 2004) at 3:10pm in room 228. We invite and encourage all members to attend our meetings. A complete list of our meeting dates is available on our club's web site at http://www.markvilleccc.cjb.net and click on "Meetings" on the left column. Should you be unable to attend any of our meetings for any reason, please let us know and check out our meeting minutes available on the club’s web site at http://www.markvilleccc.cjb.net by clicking the date of the meeting. The minutes are usually available one to several days after the meeting occurred. Please note that members who attend our meetings regularly and participate at our club sponsored activities will be recognized at the end of the year in a reference letter to our members.

CCC Karaoke:

As we have mentioned during our last meeting, the CCC will be conducting a karaoke event for junior grades (grades 9 and 10) at our school's café on Friday, April 30, 2004 from 3pm-6pm after school. This is a fundraising event aimed at raising funds for community service (Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham) and a portion of the funds will go towards our club's needs. The admission fee will be $3.50, which include a free drink. Additional Vita drinks and snacks will be sold for a fee. If the event proves successful, we plan to make another one for senior grades (grades 11 & 12).

Volunteering opportunities is currently full. Thank you to volunteers who signed up including: Edward Choi, Johnson Tse, Simon Wong, Tracy Wu, Oliver Lam, Jonathan Ying, Kelvin Yung, Roy Wong, Weijen, Julia Wong and Lucia Kwok. Our volunteers will be separated into two groups, one doing administrative work (i.e. admissions, selling drinks and snacks) and the other doing technical and event work such as cameras, song list organization, TVs, etc. We plan to have an orientation meeting for our volunteers soon for quality improvements of our services. The volunteers will be contacted about this orientation meeting and/or working information shortly. Please note that this event has been fully approved by our club’s administrative team, Markville Secondary School administration and the management of the Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham.

Welcome Tracy:

Tracy Wu is one of our few outstanding members who committed a lot of time and effort in attending most of our meetings and all of our events. She has also helped us organize some events in the past. We would like to welcome Tracy as our new secretary in our staff team. We thank her for her hard work and commitment to CCC and look forward to a better club with her.

CCC/Canadian Cancer Society:

We would like to thank all members who volunteered their time and commitment to volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society, organized by the CCC. These events include the Chinese Cancer Information Forum and the advertising of it, as well as the TV telethon. Many members have watched us help at the TV telethon on Fairchild TV last Saturday, April 3, 2004 from 8pm to 11pm. We plan to broadcast clips of this video at tomorrow’s meeting if a TV is available; otherwise, we hope to broadcast it at our next CCC meeting. Should any members wish to have a copy of this video, please let us know and bring us a tape to copy it for you. Thank you to Tracy Wu for her time and effort to tape it for us. Most volunteers should have received their community involvement hours forms as well as reference letters for these events. If you have not yet received them, please contact Edward Choi as soon as possible.
