It's been a while but not much has been happening.

Len VA3LGF forwarded me an email yeaterday from Ernie VE3ERN. It seems that back on May 22, Ernie found a great web site about IRLP and wanted to share that info with us. So, Ernie promptly sent Len an email asking his opinion. And there it sat in Len's Inbox until yesterday.

I've added a new link to the Kitchener/Waterloo Club that gives suggested operating proceedures for IRLP. Thank Ernie VE3ERN for suggesting that.

New Link to "NIST Time" so you can set your computer clock online.
Don't foget that the Newmarket Fleamarket in Markham is coming up on November 1.
That's about it for this morning. Have a weekend folks.

Well, the Marathon is over, Terry Fox is over and for that matter so is summer. We've had a few letters of thanks sent to us which I've posted on the Marathon page. Check them out.

I've also done some cleaning on the pages while I'm at it.

Club activities are slowing down, but that doesn't mean that we should. Don't forget the Monday Night Net and the Sunday TBF Net. Now is the time to get that antenna design out that you've been thinking about. Bang together a 2 Meter J-Pole. Put together an ARES "Go Kit". Change the coax on your mobile antenna (how old is it anyway?). There's lots to be done. If you come up with something else that is a good fall project, email me and I'll let everyone know.

A revised schedule (I'm not calling it final anymore!) has been posted on the MARATHON page. I took some time to put it in a table so that it is easier to read.

I have just posted the FINAL schedule for the Ultra Marathon, as received from Len VA3LGF, on the Marathon page.

Once again, members of MARC turned out to provide communications for the Kinmount District Health Services "Walk for Health" recently held on Sunday, August 10.
With approximately 50 walkers and bikers on a course stretching from Kinmount to Burnt River, the safety provided by an effective communications network is greatly appreciated by the event organizers and participants.
Bill, WER, the MARC/WALK coordinator would like to thank those members who donated their Sunday to this worthwhile activity. Phil, APL; Ernie, ERN; Len, LGF; Ron. ROH; Tom, PZS.Thanks fellas.

I've been really busy for a while, so I haven't had time to go to meetings and get any news. Fortunately, Len sent me an email with information on the Ontario Ultra Series Marathon to be held at Haliburton Forest. I've posted his email with all the news on a NEW page. See MARATHON on the Menu bar.

I've updated the Nets page. I'm only missing the controller for the 5th Sunday for the TBF Net now. If anyone happens to know who it is, please drop me a line.
The relocating of the VA3MIN repeater is on hold for now. We are hoping that a more suitable site (more height) will become available.

A new repeater is on the air! Doug Peckhover has installed a repeater at his tower in Eagle Lake and the coverage is excellent. The frequency is 147.345+ and the identifier is VA3HAL. This repeater may be linked to Ballantrae at some future date, but for now is a just a local repeater.

Len VA3LGF reports that the test at Haliburton Forest went extremely well, with communications possible using simplex from all locations. One station will need a portable tower, but that is easily arranged. It would appear then that we should start gearing up for this event. I've added this to the Events Page.

The Crazy River Raft Race in Minden is coming up on July 1. I'm not sure if we have enough volunteers, so please check with Len VA3LGF.

Len is also requesting that anyone who is coming out to the Field Day exercise this Saturday June 28, to please contact him ASAP.

The date of the Terry Fox run has been posted on the Events Page.

We are looking into providing radio communication for The Haliburton Marathon. It is a running race taking place at Haliburton Forest on September 6 and 7. We are meeting with the race organisers at the Haliburton Forest on Friday June 20 at 1:00 PM to check communication details. Please contact VA3LGF Len for more info. For more info on the race, just click here.

It has been confirmed; We will try our hand at Field Day. Meet at the Minden Lookout Saturday June 28 at 09:00 at the north end of the hill. We should be finished about 4 or 5 pm. Ernie & Phil will bring generators and Ernie will also bring his mobile home. Each to bring his own lunch & drinks etc. We will set up for HF & VHF and see how we do.

Two interesting discussions at the coffee meeting took place yesterday.

The first had to do with the relocation of the VA3MIN repeater. Two possible sites are being investigated. Both of which should improve coverage. Just a reminder, please close the link when you are finished with it.

The second discussion had to do with ARES/Field Day. Those at the meeting agreed that we should do some sort of a Field Day exercise in order to ensure that we are capable of dealing with a no power field emergency on HF and VHF. Actually operating on Field Day, which is Saturday June 28, would give us the opportunity to talk to many other amateurs who would be on air at that time. It was suggested that we do not compete, but use this as a training exercise. More details on this very exciting exercise to come.

For those interested, a link to the ARRL/RAC Field Day Contest Rules is here.

Work on ARES in Haliburton goes on behind the scenes. The EC and AECs have been very busy. Training sessions will soon be available. Wish lists and maps are being drawn up and many meetings are planned. Nothing specific on anything yet, so check back. As dates are announced, I'll post them.

News from Cec VE3HEV. He's sold his house and will be moving back to the Newmarket area sometime in June. All the best Cec.

Received a chart from VE3ERN Ernie showing the assignments for the Haliburton ARES group. I converted it to HTML and posted it on the ARES page. Thanks for the submission Ernie!

The MAN has been playing with new avatars for the site admins (ie me and him). I think they need to be resized, but I've no time for that now. You have to admit that it's a pretty good looking radio that he's used for my avatar though. Looks like an IC2100H to me.

It'll be here today. Now I just have to find the time to install it!

We had a great day for the Sneaker Walk. A very large crowd participated to make the organizers very happy and looking forward to next years event. I would like to thank: VE3WHG Carolyn, VA3BHR Barry, VE3ERN Ernie, VE3APL Phil, VE3MRJ Bob and VE3ROH Ron.

... not sure if there is any information here but I would not mind helping out not sure of others.
'This is the second call for workers at the Silverstone Black Bear Rally on Saturday, June 21st in Dorset. Thanks to those who already volunteered, but we need more in all areas - timing control marshals, traffic control marshals, HAM radio operators and spectator area marshals. Remember all kinds of great perks for workers including, free awards banquet, shirts & hats, Sunoco gas coupons and samples of Big Ass Garlic. What more could you hope for? Check out the website at www.mlrc.ca Please respond to Ross Wood at [email protected] Reminder - the pre-event Work Day is this Saturday, May 10th.'

Hokey Smokes Bullwinkle! Somebody submitted news! If anyone else wants to ... FEEL FREE! Just remember that I am not proof reading or spell checking prior to posting. Please do that before submitting articles.

I've added a new link to eham.com It's a pretty cool site for just about anything to do with amateur radio. Check out the User Reviews before you buy anything. I did!

The IC2100H will be here tomorrow :-)

I leave the house for three hours and look what he's done. Geeze and it won't work in Opera? I'm sure he did that on purpose. Actually it looks great. I can cope with IE for a while ...

The bugs are being worked out. Spent some time last evening with the MAN talking over more changes. Look for new stuff today.

I've added the Nets page this morning. Of course I haven't a clue who the controllers are, so a quick email to the Webmaster will get the info posted.
Everything should work in any browser now. We hope We're sure. If there are any problems, please e-mail the Webmaster.
Got an email this evening from VE3LLE Bob Elston. He's working on a screwdriver antenna right now and is on his 6th rework of the design and having a lot of fun. He hopes to be up here sometime and sends his regards to all.

The MAN and I agree that Netscape is a royal pain. It doesn't speak the same language as anything else including us. Does anyone still use it? Why? Let's have a campaign to rid the world of NeckScrape.

Sorry ... It's been a long day ...

Photos page will now work in Netscrape and Internet Exploder and (hopefully) any other browser you can come up with.

Lots of other updates today as well:

Bullet New menu - it's all on one side of the page now, has new buttons, will load faster, and is slightly narrower - Opera and Netscape users may have trouble loading this. It should be fixed soon. Until then use Internet Explorer. We know you have it...
Bullet Changed the links page to remove the scrollbar on 800 x 600 resolution
Bullet Redid news and archived news pages to fix some strange colours
Bullet Added buttons for nets and ARES. Please send information to fill these pages to the Webmaster
Bullet Changed the colour of the scrollbar to match the colours of the rest of the page
Bullet Made the photos page look nicer

I've added a new link to Central Ontario District ARES under Clubs.

Look for more changes to the web site today. Hey I'd even add club news if anyone submitted it.

The members page is up. There are quite likely errors on it, so please send e-mails with corrections.

There are new buttons: quicker to load, and (in my opinion) better looking.

The link antenna between the VA3MIN and VE3LNZ repeaters is installed and there appears to be no interference between the link and the repeater. Thanks to VA3LGF, VE3ERN and VE3UFL for a job well done.

For those of you wishing to use the link, the codes are as follows: ON 391# and OFF 390#. Please turn the link OFF when you are finished. For CANWARN alerts, please leave the link ON.

Note our new Logo (thanks MAN).

Added "The Severe Weather Watcher Handbook" link.

Just getting my stuff together in order to meet with VE3UFL, VE3ERN and VA3LGF. The link antenna goes up today. Of course, whether it works or not, is a different matter.

One point I'd like to make: As it is now spring and I can't make it to the coffee meetings on Fridays, perhaps one of you good readers will be kind enough to send me an email so I can keep the news page up to date. Nothing elaborate, just any radio and club business that was discussed. Hey! Whoever submits it will get their call sign on the web page! Now that's an incentive if I've ever heard one.

We are also in the process of updating and improving the main page. Should be done soon (I hope). 73
