This station is part of the Amateur Radio Service being a service in which land, space and mobile stations are operated for self training, intercommunication and technical investigations carried by Radio Amateurs who are duly authorized persons interested in Radio Techniques solely with a personal aim and without pecuniary interest. >>Regulation (no. 53) International Telecommunication Union (I.T.U.)
This is an Amprnet/Internet gate connecting Amprnet subnets in the ampr.org domain world-wide. Radio Amateurs experiment with digital modes, one of these is called packet radio in which data is transmitted in small bursts. Different protocols are used, governing the rules how this data is transmitted, received and processed. One of these protocols is called tcp/ip, the same protocols as used on the Internet, Amprnet is the amateur radio side of it. Amprnet is part of packet radio, but packet is not only amprnet! All amprnet allocations are in the ampr.org domain and the IP addresses in this domain are starting with 44. The amateur radio side of this gate can handle not only the tcp/ip protocols but also other packet protocols like ax25 etc., and can act as a wormhole between different amateur packet-networks in the Amateur Wireless World and Cyberspace! Almost all packet software used in Amateur Radio including for this Gateway is written by Radio Amateurs, this gate is using Jnos written by KA9Q, WG7J/PA3DIS and many others.
