I can't say enough good things about Baudline. It has a very nice 
waterfall and time-domain scope, along with a "peak frequency" realtime 
readout, so you may not need to pot the cursor at the peak in question.

It also has a very function-rich audio signal generator on the putput 
side, along with the ability to mix the signal generator output with the 
input signal on the display.

It is, of course, Linux-only.

I have been using a program called AudioTester.  It is written by 
Ulrich Muller in Germany.  www.sumuller.de/autotester.

It does the spectrum analyzer stuff you need to aligh your filters,
has a built in audio generator AND can work as an oscilloscope.

A fine piece of software worth the $$$ to register.
