Date: Fri, 4 Apr 2003 21:10:32 -0600 Hi Doug, For simulation of analog circuits, there is a very nice (and free) version of Spice at: http://www.penzar.com/ This is a very user friendly program and it's good for getting a feel for how circuits operate. You can plot the currents and voltages versus time and also do frequency plots. For drawing schematics and laying out small pc boards, a useful and also free program is at: www.expresspcb.com 73/ Bob - AG5Q ----- Original Message ----- From: "Doug Person" To: Sent: Friday, April 04, 2003 5:21 PM Subject: [Elecraft] Schematic design software? Has anyone used an electronic circuit design software package? I am mainly interested in being able to draw decent schematics, but have noted that there are several packages that seem able to emulate some circuitry. I am relatively inexperienced and would like to learn more about solid state digital and analog circuits. My latest electronic training was in 1968 where learned all about tube-based television circuits. Not very useful today. I was also thinking of buying one of those electronics trainers where you can do hundreds of experiments. Thought it might be a good way to get exposed to the "new" stuff. Does anyone have any thoughts on those? Ramsey sells some nice ones. (http://www.ramseyelectronics.com) Building the K2 and K1 and a variety of the add-ons was a great experience and wetted my long-dormant appetite for experimenting with electronics. Thanks in advance for any opinions shared. Doug -- K0DXV K2/100 #1920 K1/4 #1297 ++++++++++++++++++ From: "Tony Wells" To: "Doug Person" , Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Schematic design software? However if you get serious (eg more than about 50 connection points) you will need something with good functionality. I use EDS 3.1 Advance which is extemely functional, has good routing capability and includes copper pour which is nowadays almost essential for minimising RF noise. It also has spice capability which I admit I have not used much as I mostly do digital embedded controller stuff. Eagle is very impressive. Just laid out a few components in a project and it works great. And lots of components in the library. A great recomemendation. Thanks to all. Doug -- K0DXV +++++++++++++++++
