I suppose you could use it for an antenna relay as well though. It offers solid state (HEXFET, DC only) switching. But it'll switch something like up to 200V Dc at a couple amps... fortunately darn few, if any, amps will test its limits. If you have an amp which supplies AC instead of DC, just preceed it with a full-wave bridge rectifier to convert the AC to DC. 73, Tom Hammond N0SS +++++++++++++++++ Date: Wed, 22 May 2002 09:39:17 -0700 From: Eric Swartz WA6HHQ - Elecraft Organization: Elecraft To: sonny smithson Cc: elecraft at mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Elecraft] ant relay Yes. It has a high voltage keying transistor that can handle most amplifiers out there, including the SB-220 etc. 73, Eric ==== sonny smithson wrote: > > Does the K2/100 have an antenna relay jack to key an external amp? > Sonny....NN8K ++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++ From: "John-Morrow" To: "Dominik Bugmann" , Subject: Re: [Elecraft] KPA100: PA KEY OUT & Bouncing Relays Date: Wed, 12 Feb 2003 23:39:15 -0000 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dominik Bugmann" > > Might Anti-Diode and C to GND help or shall I even use a small relais? > BTW: I will never use QSK with the TL-922. The relays are not only too noisy, they are too slow and the contacts will eventually fail because rf is being applied before they have completely changed over. This is known as hot switching. To prevent 'hot switching' a TL922 needs a sequencing circuit between it and a modern rig or the relays should be changed to vacuum types. 73 John Morrow GI4KSH ++++++++++++++++++ Date: Wed, 12 Feb 2003 16:14:11 -0800 From: Eric Swartz WA6HHQ - Elecraft Organization: Elecraft To: John-Morrow Cc: Dominik Bugmann , elecraft at mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Elecraft] KPA100: PA KEY OUT & Bouncing Relays As long as it is a positive voltage the K2 will key the 922 OK. Also, we already sequence our keying line to activate 15-20mS before RF is applied, so there is no need for an external sequencer. We also have the '8R Hold' option in the menu to holt the TR line active for the same time as the t/r delay to keep your amplifier relay from chattering. there is no need to add additional external delays or diodes. 73, Eric WA6HHQ +++++++++++++++++++ Date: Thu, 13 Feb 2003 12:45:10 +0100 To: "John-Morrow" , "Dominik Bugmann" , From: Eric Wosten Subject: Re: [Elecraft] KPA100: PA KEY OUT & Bouncing Relays At 23:39 12-02-03 +0000, John-Morrow wrote: >----- Original Message ----- >From: "Dominik Bugmann" > > > > Might Anti-Diode and C to GND help or shall I even use a small relais? > > BTW: I will never use QSK with the TL-922. Howto: http://www.vcnet.com/measures/ Did all these mods to prevent glitches, just started working on the vacuum relay mod. When finished the TL922 will switch rx/tx in 2 ms, resulting in true QSK. The K2 will not be able to keep up with this, as it is semi QSK. Believe me...this is important. The keying line from the SB200 is around 130 volts. I would not put 130 volts anywhere into the K2/100. In other words, do not go from the amp key line on the K2 to the SB200. Oh yes, there is a large transistor in there for keying an SB200....but I would not do it on a bet. I would make an outboard circuit...that uses a couple of transistors that are swiitch from the K2's 13.8 v power supply that switches the 130 volt line. Or, I would use a reed relay. Or you could use a transistor and a optoisolator. I would not put the 130 volt keying line to the K2... We put a high voltage keying transistor in the KPA100 just for this purpose. Our keying line spec is 200V max at 1A. Sam may have a problem with the SB-200 though as I think it has a negative keying voltage. If it does, a relay will need to be added between the K2 and the amp to key it. 73, eric Lee Buller wrote: > At 06:08 PM 3/22/2003 +0000, you wrote: > >> I'm planning to use a newly acquired Heathkit SB-200 amplifier with my >> K2/100.
