I masked the inside top cover (to the size of the cloth), gave it a spritz and applied the grille cloth to the cover. I then applied my soldering iron thru the mounting holes to clear a path for the screws. Works super! The speaker holds it nicely in place, with the corners of the cloth emerging between the corners of the speaker. +++++++++++++++ To: n6kr at elecraft.com, elecraft at mailman.qth.net Date: Tue, 17 Sep 2002 12:44:12 -0700 Subject: Re: [Elecraft] adding grille cloth to K2, K1, KBT1 From: k6se at juno.com Wayne, N6KR wrote: "I have a question for those who have added their own grille cloth to the KBT1 top cover. I just cut it to size (square) and ran the speaker mounting screws right through the cloth. Worked fine. For the KPA100 speaker, I just followed the manual instructions and cut the corners on the provided cloth diagonally so that the speaker mounting screws cleared the cloth. That worked fine also. 73, de Earl, K6SE ++++++++++++++++ Date: Tue, 17 Sep 2002 16:10:56 -0400 To: "Wayne Burdick" , "Elecraft" From: Ken Wagner Subject: Re: [Elecraft] adding grille cloth to K2, K1, KBT1 I used the same method as Mike on my original K2 top except that I used a spray adhesive used for mounting photo paper.... Dry Mount I think it is called. I would think that any spray adhesive will work OK... high load carrying capability is not a factor. I also gave one side of the cloth a shot of the spray. 73, Ken K3IU +++++++++++++++++ Date: Tue, 17 Sep 2002 16:57:33 -0400 From: Helmut Usbeck To: elecraft at mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Elecraft] adding grille cloth to K2, K1, KBT1 I lay the grill cloth on a flat surface, put 4 small dabs of glue on the speaker gasket, place speaker on cloth and let dry. I then trim the cloth with razor blade, and mount as usual. --Helm. The instructions I send with my kit have you glue the grill clo= th to the top of the K1/2 with spray adhesive. This is to keep the cloth = from contacting the speaker cone and creating a rattle should the cloth b= ecome loose. This also works for the KBT1 just glue it to the top and the= speaker presses against the cloth. I have sent out over 300 of these kit= s (at least I have used 3 or 4 - 1 square yard chunks of cloth and each m= akes about 150) I was glad to see the cloth with the KPA100 and I am glad Elecraft is pic= king up the job of supplying the cloth.
