This gives the appearance of an intermittent fault. The syntax that works correctly is to command the frequency by the following string: FR0;FA00014100000; FR0 selects VFO A, FA000xxx tells VFO A what frequency to select. To use VFO B, issue the command: FR1;FB00014100000; Depending on application, issuing K20;AI0; ahead of the commands may avoid confusion and doesn't do any harm. Note there are no spaces between commands in the string. The above works well with BeaconSee, the default "Kenwood" setting sometimes worked but lacked the VFO A/B command so could foul up if you had previously used VFO B. Just rename the Menu Label in BeaconSee to &Elecraft. BeaconSee is available from http://www.ip.pt/coaa/ (look under software) the un-registered version works in all respects except you can't save the files or alter the time interval for looking at the beacons. Hobbie" Subject: [Elecraft] Using Virtual PC and Keyspan USB/serial adapter now WORKS Hi, Thanks to a tip from Mike Sauve, I got it working just fine. The problem was in the Hyperterminal program. Hyperterminal sets a baud rate that overrides everything else. But the button in Hyperterminal that allows one to change this setting is dimmed when using a direct (non-modem) connection. The solution to the problem was to create a fictitious 9600 baud modem, set up Hyperterminal to use it, set the baud rate in Hyperterminal to 4800, and then, when it asked me to dial, click Cancel. Presumably, if I had been using a logging program or K2Remote, this never would have happened. So now we Mac owners can join the throngs eagerly awaiting K2Remote. My symptoms are similar to yours: I can change the freq on the K2, change modes, change bands, etc. When I reach over and turn the VFO on the K2 by hand, K2/Remote doesn't update. Simply telling K2/Remote to connect to the K2 again fixes the problem. 73 de John - KC4KGU K2/100 #2490 ++++++++++++++++++ From: "Charles Bland" Organization: Entropy Reduction, Inc To: "Meier, Peter H non Unisys" , "K2 list (E-mail)" Date: Wed, 5 Jun 2002 17:09:44 -0700 Subject: Re: [Elecraft] RE: KIo2 Trouble Reply-To: BlandRanch at BlandRanch.net Connect your PC to the radio and send the commands manually using HYPERTERM, PROCOM, etc and see if the radio responds. But I do know that he's working on an upgrade to K2remote in conjunction with the KPA100 release, and that it will provide several enhancements. For those like me who know little about how to go about it, I am passing on to you what I found out. To install the K2 Remote Program, Click on K2 Information in the blue left column of the Elecraft home page. Scroll to almost the bottom of page to K2 Remote and K2 Voice software. Click on this and scroll down until you come to the K2 Remote panel display. Right above you will see two Microsoft Installer Engine programs. Click on the appropriate installer and download. Mine was identified as instmsiA Then scroll up until you see the K2 Remote Installation Program without the installer engine and download this. Mine was identified as k2rmt_setupsm. The installer must be downloaded first. I downloaded the wrong K2 Remote Program that included the installer. It would not completely download. I went into system programs and found it identified as k2rmt_setup (without the sm) and deleted it. I just wanted to pass this along because the information is not in sequence on the web page. Thanks to all who responded to me while I tried to get the program to work. Your input was very much appreciated. The one caution above all that most of you mentioned was to use the cable supplied made up for this application. Any other cable might cause real trouble. Thanks again for your help. A slip of the finger: it should have been 11W - but it doesn't kick in at all. Eric tells me "K2 Remote has not been updated yet to fully support the K2/100. Its in process, but I have a couple of other hot items to complete first." And it's all no big deal at all - I was just curious. To be honest I'd prefer to operate the K2 manually - using an FT-817 is a different matter altogether. But the feeling of satisfaction when it all fired up without smoke escaping or other problems (as yet!) was quite a kick. Now I have to convince my wife that I can't live without the KAT100 :-0 145, Pete PE1MHO - G7ECN - M3ECN K2 #2768 ++++++++++++++ Date: Mon, 02 Jun 2003 11:45:45 -0700 From: Eric Swartz WA6HHQ - Elecraft Organization: Elecraft To: "Julian (G4ILO)" Cc: Elecraft List Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Ultimate tuning knob?
