It works fine. I use the standard Kenwood 'red' mic connector. And have set the jumpers on the front panel board for the Kenwood wiring as shown in the KSB2 manual. I did change the value of R14 on the SSB board to 10k once. I reversed that change after I installed John's (KI6WX) mods to the KSB2 module. The name of the article is 'Improving the Performance of the KSB2' (7/18/2002). It is available on both the Elecraft and LA3ZA sites. I later went back and modified the front panel board to supply 5V on pin 6 of the mic connector and added AF out from the center lug of the AF gain control to pin 5 of the mic connector. This allows me to use cheap $3 headset/boom mics that were for computer use. Quality reports have been great! The AF out on the mic connector allowed me to build up a cable to go directly to the PSK31 interface with a level audio output and still be able to monitor the PSK from the internal speaker using the volume control. I also have the Heil-supplied hand mic for the K2. I modified the wiring of that mic to add in the resistor and blocking cap to enable the mic to work with the K2. I added the parts in the connector shell. Choosing pins 5 and 6 for 5V and AF out mean that all of the mics and PSK gear in the shack are interchangeable and bad things won't happen (or are less likely to :) when different mics and interfaces are plugged into the K2. I don't claim ownership of any of the above ideas - they all came from this reflector or Elecraft.
