Align and test, Pt 1;p. 37 (keyer) Date: Sat, 2 Mar 2002 21:34:26 -0800 Charlie To simulate a set of paddles for testing, get a stereo plug and solder three wires to it--tip, ring and sleeve. That gives you a dit, dah and gnd contact. Shorting the dit lead to ground should give you dits, and shorting the dah lead to ground should give you dahs. Wouldn't want to operate this way, but it's fine for testing. 73, Bob N6WG -----Original Message----- From: elecraft-admin at mailman.qth.net [mailto:elecraft-admin at mailman.qth.net]On Behalf Of Charles L. Align and test, Pt 1;p. 37 (keyer) I only have a "straight Key" at this point to test with. I don't have a paddle keyer. I can't get this section to work. I may have miswired anything (ex. the straight key in to the "stereo (2 circuit) plug. Several of the steps seem to work, but I get "no" "dots and dashes" through to my earphones. Any suggestions please. 73 Charlie Gardner WA4HKN Lexington, KY K1-4 #1074. ++++++++++++++++++++ From: "Rich Lentz" To: "Elecraft Reflector" , "Charles L. The RING is the small ring or band just below the tip, usually this is a small solder tab just below the solder tab for the tip. There will be in insulator above it (to insulate from the tip), and just below it (to insulate from ground or sleeve). The SLEEVE is the long portion of the plug that is normally at ground potential the solder connection for this is usually part of the cable clamp. ********* BEFORE YOU SOLDER - VERIFY WITH AN OHMMETER!!! ********** Rich +++++++++++++++++++
