The problem was a broken RF choke. The relatively delicate choke was broken as I bent the leads during assembly. The broken choke did not appear to be damaged without closer inspection. A simple continuity check across the component leads indicated an intermittent problem. I have heard of others having a similar problem. The choke seem easy to break. I was initially disappointed with the receiver performance until the choke was repaired. In fact, a properly functioning K1 has a terrific receiver! I have enjoyed listening to the K1 each night for over a year. You will be very happy with the K1 after the minor bugs are worked out of it. My K1's receiver sounds better than my Icom 756 Pro. I intend on replacing the Pro with a K2 this winter. 73, Scott ++++++++++++++++++++ From: "Kelly Ellison" To: Date: Sun, 11 Aug 2002 19:23:04 -0500 Subject: [Elecraft] K1 deaf problem solved!
