Elecraft - Radio Kits for Hams

First, let me say that I have no financial interest in ELECRAFT., I simply point to it as a prime example of a company I'd like to deal with. As well as normal channels, they use the internet for customer service, support, and ordering. There is an Elecraft e-mail list user group, where you can customer comments, wish lists, requests for help, etc. Such is the helpfullness of the ham community that other loyal customers will respond for requests for help within minutes. Elecraft support follows up when this fails. (You can get access to either the e-mail or the digest (a "compilation of the day" version) list at ELECRAFT's Website.

One of the SARC members had purchased and Elecraft K2 kit, put it together, and brought it out to a club meeting. It looked like a good project, but I wasn't quite convinced. Then there was a article in QST magazine comparing it to a lot of commercial radios. The K2 was either beating or matching most of the important radio specifications of the better commercial rigs (at a much better price). That sold me. Of course there was this little matter of putting it together...

When I went to Dayton in 2000, I visited the Elecraft booth and purchased my K2 kit. When assembling, the manual supplied was excellent. However, I used the features of the Elecraft website like the Builders Resorce Page to get manual updates, and E-mail reflector list to answer most of inevitable questions before I needed to ask them.

I collected a few notes on the more commonly "re-asked" questions and thread topics from the Elecraft Digest and kept them as text files. They're presented "as is" here.
