Simulated Emergency Training

The annual SET is sponsored by Radio Amateurs of Canada and involves ARES groups all across the country.  In Lanark County we worked with the Renfrew County ARES group to simulate an exercise involving the rescue of an injured snow machine operator during a stormy winter day.

Pictured below are Kevin VE3UOQ, Net Controller and George VE3GWS, EC.

The net control station was set up at the ARES office which is in the Perth Police and Fire facility.

Each year the Lanark County ARES group hosts local Girl Guides for Guides on the Air (GOTA). GOTA is held during February and involves Guides and their leaders from all over the world. The object of GOTA is to expand the horizons of local Guide groups by letting them speak with other groups in various parts of the world.

In the Perth area we use the Ontario Provincial Police training center as a base for our operations. Various antennas are erected around the complex to give us coverage on 2, 20 and 40 metres. We use various modes including SSB, phone patches, packet and the internet. Local business people provide hot chocolate and donuts.
