I was in Churchill
Falls, Labrador (grid FO73) from December 21, 2001 until January 5,
2002. I was active for the first time on 6m using a Kenwood TS-430S,
a TenTec-1208 transverter, and single element quad loop (no rotor).
The quad loop was on the roof of the house about 7.5m above ground (click
on pictures below to enlarge and for a description).

Although I've been Contesting and DXing on 160-10m for the past 16 years, I am brand new to 6m. I had never been on 6m from VO2 and made less than 30 6m QSOs in Dec/Nov 2001 from VE3FU (grid FN15). It seems like I picked the best time this solar cycle to get on 6m!
As far as I know, FO73 is a brand new or at least a really rare grid square on 6m. If you know anybody who's been active on 6m from FO73 before, please let me know.
I was actually very close to being in FO83 instead
of FO73. The dividing line between FO73 and FO83 is 64º W.
I was about 650m West of 64º W at: 53º 31' 44" N, 64º 00'
34" W in grid FO73xm. Click on the map below to enlarge and see how
close that is.
Below are some QSO and Continental statistics (click on the numbers
in the table to see lists of zones and countries worked):
| QSOs | Zones | Countries | Dupes | Approx Grids | |
| Total CW | 289 | 7 | 28 | 19 | 88 |
| Total SSB | 336 | 8 | 29 | 17 | 117 |
| Total | 625 | 8 | 36 | 36 | 160 |
| CW QSOs | CW % | SSB QSOs | SSB % | Mixed QSOs | Mixed % | |
| North America | 156 | 23.6 | 122 | 18.5 | 278 | 42.1 |
| South America | 2 | 0.3 | 2 | 0.3 | 4 | 0.6 |
| Europe | 150 | 22.7 | 228 | 34.5 | 378 | 57.2 |
| Asia | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| Africa | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| Oceania | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0.2 | 1 | 0.2 |
| Total | 308 | 46.6 | 353 | 53.4 | 661 | 100 |
All together I made 661 QSOs with (including 36 dupes), with 581
different stations in 36 DXCC countries, and 8 zones. Not bad for
8 watts (probably less!) and a single element quad loop!! It just
shows that you don't need much when conditions are right.
