The Yak Shack

About the Page Design

I had initially designed theses pages in a frames format but the more I thought about it and considered the download times, I decided to scrap the frame version - at least for now.

Although not browser specific, these pages were designed at 800x600 and are best viewed at this resolution or perhaps 1024x768. While the pages should look fine at a other resolutions, they may appear a bit "crowded" at lower ones and "stretched" at higher ones. Those who have difficulty viewing these pages at lower or higher resolutions, or prefer to browse with graphics turned off, or use a browser which does not support inline graphics, try clicking on the Alternate Pages item on the opening page menu and selecting the Text-Only option. Other versions of the site are also available from this page. The use of graphics, with a couple of exceptions, has been kept to a minimum throughout the site, and their size and loading times taken into consideration. While tables are used extensively, such elements are minimal to non-existant on the Text-Only pages.

I have tried, as much as possible, to refrain from using browser specific tags and scripts in the creation of this site. This was to conform, as much as possible, to the accessibility guidelines formulated by the World Wide Web Consortium and endorsed by the HTML Writers' Guild. While it was designed using Netscape as a browser of choice, it should be viewable on most browsers without difficulty. It does, however, make extensive use of tables, rather than cascading style sheets, due to varied browser support for the latter. The pages were designed using a number of editors and viewed on several browsers for comparison and testing. They were designed under a standard color VGA palette, using Arial 10pt as a default font.
