14/04/2012: TITANIC CENTENARY - VO1MCE & VEØMGY/MM -
The Irish Loop Amateur Radio Club, VO1MCE, Cape Race, Newfoundland (NA-027, CIsA NF001, WLOTA 0345),
will be doing a re-enactment of the the Loss of The TITANIC on 14th and 15th April, 2012. It is also
their intention to have VE0MGY/MM a ship at the Titanic wreck site communicating with Cape Race and

25/04/2012: MARCONI BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION - VO1AA -
The Society of Newfoundland Radio Amateurs (SONRA) will make history on 25 April, 2012. April 25th
each year marks the birthday of Guglielmo Marconi, who received the first wireless signal at Signal
Hill, Newfoundland. This April 25th, SONRA will celebrate the event with making an Amateur Radio
contact with Princess Elettra (Marconi) who will be in Bologna Italy to celebrate her father's
birthday. It is planned to have the Canadian Heritage Minister, the NL Premier, the City of St.
John's Mayor along with the NL Lieutenant Governor, exchange greetings with the Princess via Amateur
Radio from VO1AA at Cabot Tower. This is the first time that this event has been attempted, and it
is anticipated that it will be a high level media exposure for Amateur Radio in Canada. SONRA
appreciates the wonderful relationship that it enjoys with Parks Canada, Signal Hill National
Historic Site, and looks forward to many years of commemorating this important event. [RAC]

19/05/2012: WAR OF 1812 BI-CENTENNIAL - VX3W -
Members of the Manotick Amateur Radio Group (VE3RIX) will be operating special event station VX3W
from the Fort Wellington National Historic Site (WCA VE-00215) in Prescott, Ontario, on Saturday,
19th May 2012 from 10:00 EDT to 16:00 EDT (1400z to 2000z) to commemorate the 200th anniversary of
the War of 1812. They will be operating on various HF bands, depending on the conditions. Local
operators may be able to find us on simplex VHF and/or UHF. While most operations will be voice, we

02/06/2012: BREAD & HONEY FESTIVAL - VE3MIS -
Each year on the 1st weekend in June, (June 2nd & 3rd, 2012) the old town of Streetsville
celebrates the passing of their town into the City of Mississauga, in 1973. The Bread & Honey
Festival, now a three day event and started as a wake, is now in it's 34th year. Each year, over
40,000 people come to enjoy the bread supplied by the two remaining mills in town and honey supplied
by local businesses, as well as the parade, arts & crafts displays, entertainment and a midway
for young folks. The Mississauga Amateur Radio Club (VE3MIS) operates a special event station at the
festival for QSL & certificate collectors. Operating times are 1400 to 2000 UTC on each day. SSB

after the war of 1812, during various Bicentennial functions in the Niagara on the Lake area,

03/08/2012: CANAL DAYS MARINE HERITAGE FESTIVAL - VE3WCD -
The 34th annual Canal Days Marine Heritage Festival will be held in Port Colborne, Ontario, from
Friday 3rd August to Monday 6 August 2012. Located on the historic Welland Canal, the festival
features tall ships, boat cruises, marine museum displays, a car show and several other attractions.
The Niagara Peninsula Amateur Radio Club (NPARC) is taking part in the festival by operating a
special event station and providing RAC and ARES displays to demonstrate to the public that Amateur
Radio is both an interesting hobby and a vital community service. The Special Event call sign is

03/08/2012: WAR OF 1812 BI-CENTENNIAL - XL31812 -
Special event callsign XL31812 will be aired from 3-5th August 2012 to commemorate the Bicentennial
of the War of 1812. The station will be QRV from Fort Amherstburg (now Fort Malden), constructed in
1796, located in Amherstburg, Ontario, Canada. Fort Amherstburg was built by the Royal Canadian
Volunteers at the mouth of the Detroit River to replace Fort Detroit, which Britain was required to
cede to the United States of America in 1796 as a result of the Jay Treaty. The fort was constructed
in 1796 and in use from 1796-1850's and controlled by King George III and Queen Victoria. QSL via

26/01/2013: SPAR WINTER FIELD DAY - VE3COLD -
Rick, VE3ZUP, will activate the special callsign VE3COLD for the SPAR Winter Field Day 2013 (26-27
January). The plan is to operate indoors at an agricultural research farm (WW Loc. EN93QM). He will
huddle in a cabin heated by a wood stove. There is an outdoor privy for welcomed protection during
litter-box moments. If Rick can get the electrical supply turned on at the cabin, he will operate
using commercial supply. If not, he has a petrol generator. Lots of room for wire antennas strung
over the fields between trees. He will use a G5RV, 160m dipole and a folded dipole for 15m.
Depending on how busy he is in December, Rick might find time to build a portable ground-plane
vertical for 15m. If he hears signals showing up on 6m, he will give that a go with a modified
hex-beam. The radios will be a TS480 and a TenTec Jupiter running at 100W SSB and 50W digital. He
will have the TS480 ready for 80m through 6m and the Jupiter on Topband. Rick will attempt to hop
amongst all contest bands 160m through 10m -- perhaps 6m. Most of the time he expects to use SSB
