Members of Welland's 7th and 4th Girl Guides spent Sunday afternoon talking to fellow Guides and Brownies as far away as Montreal and Nova Scotia with the help of Rose City Seniors Wireless Association
It's an event HAM radio operator Vince Della Monache has been orga- nizing for years, but it's the first time they've been at the association's new headquarters at the Carrie Lynn

Pinnard Memorial Centre in Dain City.
Jamie MacKenzie, 10, was the first to use the radio equipment to talk to a girl from Montreal.
They talked about "everything like sports ... about baseball, basketball, soccer," she said.
Guide leader Diana Knight called it "a special opportunity to be able to speak to girls from other places."
In past years, she said the short conversations over the radio have led to long distance friendships.
Although using the equipment to make new friends across the country "was cool," Jamie said, Della Monache said the facility, which the club has been using for the past six months, has other more serious uses as well.
"Hopefully the City of Welland recognizes that it could be used as an emergency shlter," he said.
"Were very happy and I hope we was can be of service to the city."
