Techno-Bubble soda
(laugh with tears, the comedy )
The buzzword' Signal Integrity symptoms we observed fourty years ago. Somebody just re-invented the name. I remember two guys fighting this problem in Nortel. They spent three weeks debugging TTL Bus, and they can't find it. They can't move single inch forward. Nobody knew how to terminate transmission line. Gosh. Where is the management? Sitting on the John. hiding.
Examples of secret language:
- MRDs, PRDs, six Siebel belts. (example of Ti corporate language). I have black belt in karate. The second sentence is clear.
- Sentence Heard: "The Receive Diversity is predictable by statistics. It was proofed". Lottery is predictable. This is causality, not poker.
Power-on Reset, POR, and Manual Reset.
It is the beginners' mistake. You wake up, stretch, and get a cup of coffee. It is the wake-up call. Same as reset. In case of power glitch the browning circuit will catch it. Reset chip has to have 100% reliability. It is independent system. Without proper reset it will fail. Few years ago I saw young guys burning-out 25 brand new 100Mbps Ethernet cards. They were told the card doesn't have reset circuit. Don't try. Without reset it will not work. The folks continued burning the Ethernet cards. They spoke Norteleese, a special language invented by the northern lights' CEO Mr. Rauch. (fired). Maybe the folks are still there burning the Ethernet cards... Imagine the whole building full of burned cards.
- I saw full product returns. Trucks were lined up by receiving, returning the stuff to Broadcom. The Reset circuit failed.
- Computer cards failed. All, 100% of them failed. They were 100% returned. Just imagine the receiving folk at Azera Networks Inc. San Jose. An Indian company. The software and hardware was shit, as well.
Fifty cards failed after fist month. Five hundred failed during next month. (And also the computers). Somebody used RC circuit instead of the power-on reset chip. Gosh, many Indian companies from San Jose, CA, are doing business overseas. It is about 30% or more. Imagine Indian companies generating garbage similar to Mentor Graphics, flooding the whole Silicon Valley.
-The Space CanadArm failed twice in space because of missing manual reset, and software glitches. The usual Canadian Politbyro politics was involved.
- Each line is for defective Reset Circuit in existing product. How many beers the designers had? How many disfunctional managers they have?

The ON/OFF switch
"If the device doesn't have the power ON/OFF switch, just drop it".
It will go down the pipes anyway. Many products continuously burn 2-7 Watts when they are switched off. (HP Invent printers, HP software, answering machines, computer power supplies, china CD players, light dimmers, owen, radio, air conditioner).
Publications
Publications and publishing are driven by publishing index. Write Ten articles annually. AMSP. Write as much as possible. Well, is it worth of reading? On the other hand, a good published idea is fully copied and utilized within few months. The articles written for non-profit organizations and magazines have value. Good article obviously summarizes few years of work. Now, take your favorite magazine. There is single interesting article once per year. I bet 95% of the articles is sales promotion, the Bs. The remaining 5% are for genuine articles.
Students are well-planned victims of the $oftware gigabyte corporate industry. The industry needs brainless "Yessur guys", used to solve everything by software they will buy, or the company will buy. After the purchase they find out the software is half-ass done and doesn't work as advertised. They will need to buy updates and additional softwate, however this will not solve any technical issues. Some will build personal relation with the software package fostering their knowledge. The very interesting moment, when the chip is done, baked, packaged and it spits out only noise. The jaws are down. Then they hide behind the software. NoSsir.
I asked what is the chip delay? Wait... "The simulation will take fifteen minutes" ... "the delay is under 1 ns" ... BS! :))) When the hell freezes over.
