Regulatory

 

As part of the permission from the Department of 

Transport & Regional Services the VK9ML team is 

required to report any sightings of wildlife, particularly 

whales, dolphins and turtles whilst en-route to Mellish.  

 

Reports on reef vegetation, wildlife, any environmental 

damage, storm damage or pollution are required too.

Above - Melon-headed whales (Peponocephala electra) travel in large 

herds in tropical and sub-tropical oceanic waters.  Length: 2.3 - 2.8m.

Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) are the most easily identified 

dolphins, often seen close inshore and riding the bow waves of vessels.

 

Below is a copy of the the VK9ML license issued by the

Australian Communications Authority on 14 February, 2001

for amateur radio operation from Mellish Reef.
