My country...
My country -
Ukraine.
Ukraine, which is located in eastern Europe,
is bordered on the north by Belarus
and Russia, on the east by Russia, on the
south by the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, on the southwest by Romania
and Moldova, and on the west by Hungary, Slovakia,
and Poland. Its total area is about twice
the size of Italy.Romania contests ownership
of certain territories, including Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina, which
are currently occupied by Ukraine and Moldova.
A potential issue with Russia over Crimea could
re-emerge.
One-tenth of Ukraine was contaminated by radiation following the Chernobyl
nuclear-reactor accident in 1986. Background radiation levels remain high,
and the country continues to depend on similar reactors for 9 per cent
of its power. Industrial pollution is particularly bad in the southeast,
and water is often drawn from contaminated rivers. Some deforestation has
been occurring, and there are problems of excessive fertilization in the
Odes’ka Zatoka. Because of a lack of cash in the post-Soviet transition,
environmental reparations in Ukraine have been delayed.
In 1991, after reorganization
and disintegration USSR, Ukraine has become the independent country. And
in 1996 there was a document, which has confirmed its her independence
and firmness of borders and has become a guarantee of freedom and rights
of the citizens of Ukraine - it constitution of Ukraine.
