About our club
The Tar River Amateur Radio Club (TRARC) is
a community-based organization located in and around Rocky Mount,
North Carolina. The membership is comprised of hams that
live in Rocky Mount, Tarboro, Nashville, Castalia, Wilson,
Raleigh, and other surrounding small towns in this mostly rural
community.
Formed in 1989, TRARC is active in many events throughout the
year. Aside from regular club meetings on the first Monday
of each month, the club has many members that are active with
ARES. Monthly meetings always include an interesting presentation
of a ham related topic for discussion and education. Examples
of recent topics included BPL, ARES/RACES, ULS, Antennas, PC
Virus protection, and, of course, Field Day.
Field Day is the club's biggest event of the year. With a
diverse group of hams, there is something for everyone at the
TRARC Field Day event. Starting at the April meeting each
year, the participation of each and every member is vital and
much appreciated. By tradition, the clubs president heads
up the effort with the help of four or five captains in charge of
specific areas. Everyone is involved in some aspect. Intense
contesting and laid back eyeball QSO's co exist in harmony with a
good time, good food, and good fellowship had by all. Always
in the forefront is presenting Amateur Radio to the general
public as a helpful resource in the time of need.
Membership is open to any licensed amateur radio operator and
associate membership is available to any interested person
wishing to pursue an amateur radio license. Dues are $15
per year and include a monthly newsletter and TRARC e-mail
address. TRARC is an ARRL affiliated club.
