Thrace was very famous to the antiquity and a lot of ancient writers wrote about this area. Omerus to the description of the Trojan War and Irodotus to his historic books were writing very often about this area. Thrace is the birthplace for a lot of famous ancient people like Democritus (the father of the theory of atom), Lefkipus, Anaxagoras (philosophers), Orpheus (ancient god of music), Dionysos (god of wine and joy), the Cyclopes Polyfimus the one eye giant that Odysseus met to his adventures and many more belong to the pantheon of the Greek history and mythology. Remaining of the ancient Greek and Byzantine civilization is everywhere in Thrace proving the Greek continuity to the ages...
To our days, Thrace, although the most isolated area of Greece, its an emerging place partly due to the love of the local people for their land. The population of Thrace is pure Greek (92% Christians & 8% Muslims) and both communities live peacefully together for years.
In modern Thrace there are big industrial areas, the Democritus University, Sports teams, tourism (there are many big and beautiful beaches along the coast line and the beautiful island of Samothrace, where the famous statue ''The Winged Victory'' of Samothrace was founded), traditional taverns, modern bars and cafes, a beautiful lake, old traditional and modern buildings and much more things, gives the rhythm of life to modern Thrace... to modern Greece.
This is why Thrace for years now called...
THE GREAT LAND
