Weapons of Mass Descruction
Thanks to all operators who participated in the June 17th weapons of mass destruction exercise in Hamburg. The exercise was a simulated release of a biological weapon. Emergency responders from several area police, fire, EMS and emergency management agencies participated. As well as FBI, Department of Defense, Medical Examiner, both county hospitals and the American Red Cross. RACES/ARES provided much needed communications between exercise facilitators. The Sussex County Amateur Radio Repeater provided excellent coverage for the multiple exercise locations, Newton hospital, Sussex hospital, staging and pre-staging areas, and Incident Command. We had an excellent turnout of operators. There were members from Sussex County Amateur Radio Club, Splitrock ARA, and West Morris Wireless, all coming together for emergency communications. ARES field manuals were distributed. The exercise was an overall success and an excellent learning experience for all. Hope to see more of you at the next event. |
Field Day
Sussex County ARES would like to thank all who helped make field day possible. Public awareness was increased with newspaper articles. WMBC Ch63 was on hand to provide a report. Field day demonstrates to everyone, including ourselves, that in the event of disaster, communications can be reestablished with the rest of the world. We ARE prepared to setup our tents, radios, towers, and generators if needed. And it's a lot of fun! Schering
Plough Schering Plough conducted its annual full scale exercise at its research facility on Route 94, Lafayette Twp. on Thursday June 10. The exercise was a simulated explosion in one building with several injured and trapped. Responding agencies included Lafayette, Hampton and Sparta Fire Dept, Blue Ridge, Sparta, and Newton EMS, St. Clares Paramedics, NJ State Police as well as Schering's own Fire Brigade and Medical response teams. The OEM van was present for communications. |
