W2YE ANTENNA PARTY
Seven hams (Bill Rowlett, KC4ATU, John Murphy, KB3CDF, Ed Larsen,W4ECL,
Pieter Englebrecht,KG4NXP, Ray Mullins, KD4RSL Jim Chappell,AF4MO, and
Floyd Martin, W4RW) arrived on August 25th to help Dick Maylott, W2YE
install the antennas on his new tilt over tower.
The tilt over tower was lowered to the working level about 8 feet off
the ground. The rotor, rotor mount, and mast were then mounted in the
tower. The three antennas (14 element tribander, 2 element 40 meter
linear loaded beam and 5 element 6 meter beam) were worked into
position and fastened in their final positions. A 12-foot stepladder in
KC4ATU's truck bed (and fearlessness of Pieter) helped immensely with
this task. After tilting the tower to the full vertical position, the
antennas looked great, but the rotor would not turn. The mast was
binding in the pipe at the top of the tower. A sequel to the original
party is scheduled for Saturday, September 8th to adjust the rotor and
hopefully eliminate the binding.
