PRESIDENTS THOUGHTS:

Hi,

The May meeting is rapidly approaching. For some reason I thought it was later in the month. I guess that is sign of impending middle age.

We are just about done analyzing the results from the Virginia QSP Party. Based upon the results from the last meeting, I reviewed the logs and revisited the plaque winner list once more to verify our initial analysis. I plan on posting the draft results on our web site within a few days. Next we need to get the plaques and get ready to present them at the Manassas HamFest coming up in Jun. I am looking for a volunteer photographer to take pictures.

We have three major activities for the May meeting.

First, the featured speaker will be our own Bill, KC4ATU. He volunteered to speak about "Working DX (QRO or QRP)." I am interested because some of his tips may help me with my own small station with contacting DX stations. Some others may be interested because operating QRP requires a different approach to radio, one that emphasizes different technical and operator skills. I am looking forward to his presentation.

Second, we need to continue with the planning for the 2004 Field Day. At the last meeting we roughed out a plan. At this meeting, we need to fill some holes. I have posted the draft plan on the SPARC web site (go to the main page (www.qsl.net/sterling) and follow the link to Field Day) for your review.

We will also be filling out the operator schedule. If you desire specific times, please let me know. We will review what we have at the meeting and try to fill in the blanks.

Finally, it is time to nominate officers for election for the next SPARC year. I am looking forward to the enthusiastic nomination of candidates.

Looking forward to seeing you all again,

73,
Gordon - NQ4K
