PRESIDENTS THOUGHTS:

Hi,

It is March. Last weekend I participated in the ARRL International DX Phone contest and had a lot of fun. Worked single band on 15M for a couple of hours.  I also received my first DXCC certificates, for 20M and Phone. I am still a new ham with an old radio and a wire antenna, but making progress. And I went to the WinterFest. Almost bought a few things but did not. I am now suffering some minor regrets, but there are always future hem fests where more opportunites will arise.

Our meeting in March shall concentrate on three items.

First, Jim, AF4MO, has been defining an emergency communications role for the club. At our last meeting, he presented a proposal and asked that club members review the proposal and come to the next meeting prepared to discuss it.  I have posted his  proposal on the web site. (Go to the main page and follow the link on the left column to Emergency Operations.)

Next, we need to finalize arrangements for the Virginia QSO Party.  It it the weekend following the March club meeting. This year, as in previous years, we will operate the K4NVA station from Dick's shack. We need to finalize an operator roster for the station. Please email Dick (RWMaylott@aol.com) with the hours you can be available or, even better, come to the meeting where we will finalize the roster.  (U can visit the Va QSO Party on the SPARC web site (www.qsl.net/sterling).)

Finally, Field Day is coming up in June. There are some long lead time items that need some attention. We are looking for the volunteer to organize the Field Day event, we need to cordinate with our field day site, and this event may have a tie in with Jim's emergency communications proposal.

I am looking forward to seeing you all again.

73,
Gordon - NQ4K
