PRESIDENTS THOUGHTS: Hi, I am looking forward to another meeting. I was very disappointed that we had to cancel the January meeting. I look forward to the 2 hours every month where we can "ham it up" a little and enjoy talking about our favorite pastime. There is a lot on the agenda for the February meeting. Brian, N1KC, has volunteered to tell us about his activities as an Official Observer Coordinator for the Virginia Section. I will be interested in finding out what an "Observer Coordinator" does. Jim, AF4MO, has been working for a couple of months on finding an emergency communications role for the club. At our last meeting, Tom, WB3AKD, discussed emergency communications in Loundon County. Subsequently Jim has a proposal for us to consider to get the club involved in emergency operations. Finally, we have the Virginia QSO Party coming up. Dick, W2YE; Ray, KD4RSL; Bill, KS4II; and I have been working on the coordination for the event. Still a lot of things to do. We will report on our activities to date and discuss the things remaining to do including more advertising and organizing the SPARC station at Dick's home. (U can visit the Va QSO Party on the SPARC web site.) The February meeting will also be our annual membership meeting. We update our membership list and collect dues. I personally hope to have fun this coming weekend. I am starting to get involved in RTTY, primarily on 80 M. Using a highly sophisticated acoustic coupling technology, I hope to work the CQ World Wide RTTY WPX Contest this weekend. Looking forward to seeing you all at the meeting. 73, Gordon - NQ4K |
