The annual Boy Scout Jamboree of the Air (JOTA) weekend was held this
year on October 17 & 18, 2009. See
http://www.scout.org/jota.
On Sunday, 18 Oct, To support the activity, Bud, W4KSN, set up an HF
station and this enabled scouts to make amateur radio contacts with
other scouts or individuals and let the local scouts be on the air and
communicate with their fellow scouts around the USA or the World!
Bud, W4KSN, emailed:
"All went well. Not a lot of contacts but everyone had there time
on
the radio. Worked hard for the first contact probably took 30
minutes
of calling CQ. It was funny a W4 answered with a weak
signal... He
turned out to be only 4.5 miles away in Herndon and less than a mile
from my home."
Bud, W4KSN, and a scout, making a contact.
