Herndon Caboose Special Event Report

After a rocky start, we were able to install our 2 Meter station and get on the air in the chilly air (Lets face it. It was darned cold in the caboose!) of Saturday morning.  Dick, I hope you get your car back online!

After nearly 100 QSO's, answering countless questions about the caboose and the crew that rode in it, and many cups of  coffee, canned tea and donuts (thanks Mike and Bud!) we closed down the station and called it a weekend.  Red, I'll have a copy of the log sheets for you at the next meeting.

Many thanks to those who came by and operated, thank you to Henry for the use of your fine rig and Bud for the coaxial cable.  This was a real team effort!

This is the third demonstration our club has mounted for the Herndon area (all within sight of each other) and the 4th in 4 months!  We sure have an active group and are able to put up a viable station and get on the air with little fuss and make contacts.  This is what ham radio is all about and a useful demonstration of how well ham radio can function in the field environment.  We should send some sort of email link to the Fairfax county ARES coordinator that we've been active.  When Mark and Henry can get the website updated with the pictures that were taken this weekend, send a link to whoever the ARES guy is and also to the Section Manager, Carl Clements so we can get some recognition for the work we put in to promote the hobby.

Again, Thanks to all concerned,

Bill McCourt - WF1L
