Six Meter Roundtable

The 6m SPARC round table is every Wednesday (except for meeting nights) at 1900 local time There is no net control station because this is not a net. It is a gathering place for SPARC members and other interested amateurs to conduct an informal round table discussion. Join us on Wednesday evenings and learn something new! Dig out those manuals that came with your radios and find out what that knob or button you never play with really does!

Thanks to Henry, K2BFY, the Sterling Park Amateur Radio Club has been given permission to use the Six Meter Repeater which is on a 300 foot tower on Belmont Ridge Road near Tilletts Park in Ashburn, Va. The NQ4CI NVFMA Repeater operates on 53.61mhz with a -1mhz offset (The repeater transmits on 53.610 MHz and receives on  52.610 MHzand a 67 Hz PL tone (PL not currently implemented)).

Bill, WF1L, advises that a 5/8wave 2m antenna is about 1/4wave on 6m and works very well with the 6M Repeater. Almost any antenna will work on 6m... from an 80 meter dipole to a 2m 5/8 wave vertical. Antennas should not be an issue with the local Repeater.

The backup plan if the 6m repeater is not working is to meet on the 70 cm Ashburn NQ4CI NVFMA repeater at 442.100 MHz with a +5 MHz offset. The 70cm repeater can be reached with an HT from Leesburg so most SPARC members should be able to reach it. Some members have been able to reach the Repeater with as little as 300mw (QRP) power.

If you have any more 6m antenna ideas, or discussion items for the Roundtable, please contact Henry, K2BFY, and show up on the repeater on non-meeting Wednesday nights at 7PM!
