S.T.A.R.S. CLUB NEWS LETTER
..........................................................................................................................
November 1998
Even if the weather didnt cooperate, everyone seemed to have a good time at the picnic held at the North Little Rock VA Medical Center picnic grounds. We even conducted a little business. The only nominations made were to keep the present set of Officers for next year with the possible exception of the Secretary. Since Alex-KBYUA was not present, we could not confirm that he was a willing candidate. Libby-N5UEZ was nominated for Secretary by Steve-N5QIH and seconded by Mike-NL7RQ. Elections to be completed at the November 15th meeting. Steve-N5QIH gave a Treasurers report. Balance $437.41. Steve also passed out a complete record of receipts and expenditures from 8/98 thru 9/24/98 at October meeting. Thanks Steve for a job well done. Thanks also to Libby for coordinating, Lou and Alice for the Turkey and all those who called and got the word out and especially all those who showed up and made a real good outing.
The November meeting was held at Shoneys in Jacksonville on the 15th. Everyone was pleased to see Russell-WA5NBK and Jenny at the meeting. Steve gave a Treasurers report. Same as last month $437.41. Libby requested that her name be withdrawn from consideration for Secretary. Alex-KB5YUA was present and agreed to remain Club Secretary. After some discussion Paul-WA5TIX made a motion that the club re-elect the current officers for 1999. Jim-KC5GUX seconded the motion. There was no request for discussion. All present cast a yes vote.
Dues for 1999 would be appreciated as soon as possible. Several present paid their dues for next year. Thanks for the Support.
As noted one of the primary goals of our Club is to support and maintain a repeater for the local area. The current repeater has done a excellent job since the antenna was cleaned, sealed and raised approximately 15ft. After purchase of the Astron power supply the repeater has performed real good through the hot summer months.
The subject of an Emergency Coordinator for the Club was discussed. Bob-WA5AAK is presently involved with the Lonoke County Emergency Group and agreed to accept the responsibilities of E.C. for our club. Bob mention that Jimmy DePriest is the O.E.S. Representative for Lonoke County. Thanks Bob.
Dale-W5RXU conducts emergency training sessions each Sunday on 3987.5 at 7:00 a.m. If you have H.F. listening capabilities you might tune in and if you would like to present a subject for discussion get in touch with Dale or Eldon-K7ZQR.
The subject of a Christmas Breakfast was discussed and it was decided that we will hold our monthly meeting as usual and consider it our Christmas get together. This will be at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 20th. Steve checked with Shoneys and they agreed that we could have the room at that day and time.
Talk up our Club - Remember we need to maintain the membership. Invite any of the local hams that you know to join us and lets just have fun and enjoy our hobby. Dues are still a bargain at $10 per year; $15 for a family membership. Dues can be mailed to the Clubs Post Office Box:

Presidents Message: (Club President that is)
Thanks to all that assisted in helping us get a good repeater on the air both in contributions and work. Each of you can be proud of a job well done. I especially want to thank each one for supporting me as President of your Club. Without your support it would be not only be difficult but very lonely trying to maintain a viable Club. Let the good times roll and keep the wheels turning. Eldon-K7ZQR
