The meeting was called to order by Bill Britt, President @7:31 P.M. Present Bill Miller, VP, N6WGM Pledge of Allegiance was led by Bill Miller .Invocation was said by Jack Scott. Visitors Tom Webster NA1U Membership was introduced to the guest. Treasurer's report was read and accepted. Committee Reports. Barbara Million KE4ZTV solidified the Christmas party arrangements. The party will be held at the White Swan [same as last year] on the second Monday in December and the cost will be $18.00 per person. The menu has not been finalized. MARS: Johnny Williams K4ANJ reported that there appears to be some Air Force "realignment " of MARS facilities. He also reported that attempts were made to establish contact with rotating troops in the Mid East area of operation has yet to be established. [ information on troop movements and locations are sensitive and omitted here]. He also reported that a check has been received for $300.00 form VFW post 4209 for MARS operations. Tech Class. Charles Hensley KC4Q reports that the class will finish on August 6 and cannot predict the number of students who will take the class. He attributes the lack of concrete numbers because the Scouts have been involved in summer camp activities and have not attended all the sessions. Net. Jeannette Frantz KG4DJA, reports that assistance is needed for the Net. She also reported that the Oracle needs some support also as she may be incapacitated for a brief period in August. Jeanette may be contacted at 489-0571 or any officer of the club will rely a message to her. Marion County Emergency Communications. Bill Britt announced that he is seeking volunteers on Saturday @0800 at the sheriff station to assist in antenna maintenance tasks. Charles Hensley also reported than the Munroe Regional Hospital has established a repeater @145.270 . The purpose is to achieve back up communications between its facilities for emergency operations. Romeo School. Larry Phelps KFOZE reports that the grant for additional equipment for the Romeo School project has been submitted and is hopeful that it will materialize and additional equipment for the project may be purchased and installed. Scouts: Tony Blalock K4OCF reports that the scouts will be setting up radio equipment at their October 14-16 scouting event. More information is to follow. Field day:Bill Britt announced that 370 contacts were made. The event was successful and the weather was corporative. Hamfest: Bill Miller distributed the flyers to the membership and introduced the tickets he printed for the event. Progress continues to be made toward event day. New Item: It was agreed upon by the membership that the August meeting would be held at VFW Post 4209, on 36th Ave, Ocala. The post is located about 2 miles beyond the K Mart at the junction of Silver Springs Blvd and 36th Ave. Further driving instructions/location will be published in the next Oracle. The meeting adjourned @8;15. Program: An interesting program was provided by Ernie O'Berry following the official adjournment and was well received buy the membership. Old Business Bill Miller distributed his master plan for vendor table lay out for the hamfest. Bill Miller also reported that testing for the Boy Scout class will be Saturday August 6, 2005. Bill Miller has drawn a map to the August membership meeting location and will publish it in the Oracle. Bill Britt announced that he is still awaiting word on our insurance claim on damaged equipment. New Business Bill Britt proposed and was accepted by the Board, that keys for any club facility will only be issued to members that have been in good standing for a minimum of six months. Each individual issued a key must be approved by the full board. In anticipation of the enactment of the above policy, all present facility locks will be changes and a program to issue keys accompanied by a signature will be enacted. Cited among her numerous accomplishments was her involvement in a toy drive for Alabama victims of Hurricane Ivan. An ARRL Assistant Section Manager for Youth, Rebekah not only took in donations of toys but raised more than $1100 to purchase winter clothing and additional toys. She also serves as net control for the Birmingham Amateur Radio Club (BARC) weekly BARC Kids Net, which she originated in 2002. In addition, she helps teach the club's ham radio classes and assists at examination sessions. She's also worked to recruit newcomers to Amateur Radio. A born communicator, Rebekah has used her skills to influence other youngsters to enter the hobby through presentations she has made at three of the largest hamfests in Alabama and at Carole Perry's 'Youth in Amateur Radio' forum at Dayton Hamvention," said a news release announcing the award. At this year's Hamventon, Rebekah also was among those helping out at the "ARRL Youth Activities" concession at ARRL EXPO 2005. Rebekah also has sponsored Kid's Day events the past two years at the BARC club station, W4CUE. ARRL Alabama Section Manager Greg Sarratt, W4OZK, called Rebekah "a very active amateur radio operator who deserves this award." An ARRL Full Family Life Member, Rebekah got her license when she was eight, upgrading to Amateur Extra a year later. An avid DXer, Rebekah achieved DXCC by age 10. She also enjoys contesting. Rebekah comes from a ham radio family. Her parents are Truman and Angela Williams, NN4C and WN4C. Her older sister Christal is KG4WYN. She also has two brothers, Jeffrey and Joey. She is a rising seventh grader at Homeland Christian School, where she's on the honor roll and has received many citizenship awards. The Amateur Radio Newsline Young Ham of the Year Award will be presented to Rebekah Dorff Saturday, August 20, at the Huntsville Hamfest. As the 2005 YHOTY winner, Vertex-Standard (Yaesu) will cover Rebekah's hamfest stay and present her with a piece of Yaesu ham gear. CQ magazine will treat her to a week at Space Camp Huntsville and will present her with a variety of CQ products. She'll also receive a plaque. Now celebrating its 20th year, the Amateur Radio Newsline Young Ham of the Year Award goes each year to a radio amateur 18 years old or younger who has provided outstanding service to the nation or community or for the betterment of the state of the art in communication through Amateur Radio. Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Course registration: Registration for the ARRL Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Level I on-line course (EC-001) opens Monday, August 1, at 1201 AM EDT and will remain open until all available seats have been filled or through the August 6-7 weekend--whichever comes first. Class begins Friday, August 19. Thanks to the United Technologies Corporation (UTC), the $45 registration fee paid upon enrollment will be reimbursed to students who complete the course requirements and are upgraded by their mentor to "Passed" within the 8-week course period. During this registration period, seats are being offered to ARRL members on a first-come, first-served basis.
