May, '00 - Here is the latest Veep Bleep:

Last month's presentation was done by Dick Linnert, KB0PRC. Dick gave a presentation on constructing 6/2m dual-band Yagi antennas and also shared some of his professional experiences in this field with us. He handed out construction notes for these antennas that have quite unique features to get maximum efficiency out of one antenna on both bands.

This month we will be visiting the Deep Space Exploration Society. DSES is an all volunteer society that is in the process of restoring the two 60 foot dishes at the Table Mountain out on Nelson Rd. Since we have to make use of natural light to be able to see what is going on there, we will leave at 6:50pm from the clubhouse. We have to be at the site at 7:00 pm - so if you are a minute late - please give us a call on the repeater (147.270+ 100HzPL) for directions.

If you want more info go and look on the web at http://www.cs.colorado.edu/homes/batman/public_html/meyertr/dses.html

Come along and have great fun.

Traithlon

When Summer comes, the opportunities to serve the community via ham radio expand. As usual, this June we have been asked to help with the Longmont Triathlon/Duathlon. Its really quite fun, and doesnt require much in the way of planning or equipment .

This years event takes place Saturday June 4th starting at 6:30 a.m., and could go as late as 1:00 p.m. (It usually wraps up well before noon, however.) Mr. Glenn Spagnuolo, one of our fair citys Recreation Supervisors, has requested eigh t to eleven L.A.R.C. hams. At a recent meeting, Dean Rupert W7HDR "volunteered" to be the net control for the event. Participating hams will receive lunch, a T-shirt, and (la piece de resistance) two (count em - two!) free passes to Longmonts City recreation facilities!

To volunteer for this event please call Dean at (303) 772-6561, use the Sunday night net (147.27, 100hz, +, 8 p.m.), send an e-mail to [email protected], show up at this months Meeting (7 p.m. Wednesday May 17th Boulder County Fairgrounds H eadquarters Building), send snail mail to: L.A.R.C.
