SPARK and EPARA

Are SPARK and EPARA related ?

This is a question that gets asked over and over again. The answer is as follows. SPARK is a repeater support group. All of the dues paid to SPARK go directly to help fund the operation of the repeater. Notice I said "help fund". The cost of the repeater operation far exceeds the actual income from dues. You may ask why do we continue to spend money and strive for perfection on the repeater ? Well believe it or not, it is fun for us to be able to provide this repeater for ALL to enjoy. A large percentage of traffic on the repeater is by non-members. We firmly believe that ALL Amateur frequencies belong to ALL Amateurs and that closed repeaters should not be allowed. The Amateur spectrum is so congested on VHF and UHF that closed systems just compound the problem and should not be allowed.

EPARA is a totally separate organization. Some EPARA members are also SPARK members and pay dues to both organizations. EPARA dues fund EPARA activities. EPARA uses the SPARK family of repeaters to coordinate EPARA activities and rag chew with EPARA, SPARK, PARK, and all Amateurs that use the SPARK system. In plain words, EPARA has adopted 045 as EPARA's home base of operation.
