****** S.O.A.P.R.A. ****** Southern Oregon Amateur Packet Radio Association January Meeting Minutes for 07/14/01 Scheduled Meeting at Providence Hospital, Medford. ====================================================================== Called to Order: 10:15 AM Gene Burchfield, KO6DW, Presiding Present: N7KS Will Calvert N7ZWU Sean Smithers KO6DW Gene Burchfield WB6YQP Steve Grajeda KB7EKF Warren Olney KC7JJG George Malmstrom KK7BF Brian Fritsen KI7UK Don Barkemeyer ===== Report by Albert, WB7AWL. Minutes of previous meeting were read by Sean, N7ZWU Motion to accept by Will, N7KS. 2 nd by Don, KI7UK. ===== Treasurer's Report: Beginning balance of $1192.30 with deposits of $60.00 and $15.31 cash on hand brings the total to $1267.61. ===== Tech Report: Linking north is difficult. Getting people involved between Eugene and Grants Pass has been problematic. The northern part of the state (Portland) has problems with accepting internet forwarding into outer areas that have great difficulties getting radio linking set up due to limited resources and basically have no interest in extending the network into these areas. Packet band plans are local. Due to this, the dumping of internet passed traffic and the lack of connections into outlaying areas, the packet network is being regionalized into large disjointed fragments. On top of this, the ARRL doesn't promote packet. Secretary Sean, N7ZWU reads resignation letter and resigns from the office of secretary. General discussion on what we expect from packet and what is involved in network operation. We are an organization of volunteers and need to work together. Albert, WB7AWL reports that we need a UPS for Hamaker to stop the voltage spikes that are causing the power supplies to crowbar. Motion by Brian, KK7BF to buy 3 UPS's (Hamaker, King, Soda node stacks), price approx $149. 2nd by Don, KI7UK. Passed We can do something about the connectivity north. We have a 220 link to Lane Mountain. A proposal is to move the King Mtn 430.75 MHz radio to 441 MHz and make this the link to Lane. The 220 MHz radio on Lane then can be used to link further north. Motion by George, KC7JJG to have Albert pursue the above plan. 2nd by Steve, WB6YQP. Passed. The 430.75 antenna will probably have to be returned. NWS BBS - we need to set up the BBS's for forwarding. Since the W7OEK BBS is permanently gone we can reassign its unused link for the NWS. Motion by Sean, N7ZWU to reassign the 220 MHz link for operation between the NWS and King nodestack to tie the NWS into the SOAPRA network. 2nd by Will, N7KS. Passed Questions about meeting times. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday are good evenings for Albert. Motion to hold next meeting on September 8th passed. We need to look into what's available for antenna replacement on Hamaker. Albert, WB7AWL will do this. Warren, KB7EKF will temp as secretary until January. Motion by Steve, WB6YQP to accept the secretary's resignation. 2nd by George, KC7JJG. Passed. Meeting adjourned: 12:24 PM Sean, N7ZWU SOAPRA Secretary. ===== /ex = --------------------------------- Sean Smithers seans@cdsnet.net
