I've been an amatuer radio operator for five years or so now, with a Technician Plus ticket. I've been a member of SMARC for two years. The other radio related pursuits of mine are scanner monitoring as well as shortwave listening. I especially enjoy wandering the 150-400 kHz range looking for non-directional navigational beacons. I can be found on the SMARC 2 meter repeater on 147.150 mHz. My other hobby (aside from computers!) is building scale models, mostly submarines.
For a living I'm a Prince George's County police officer, which I've been doing for going on ten years now. Right now, I'm a Detective assigned to the Property Recovery Unit. My job entails enforcing state and county laws related to Pawn Shops and Secondhand Dealers. I also update the Prince George's County Police website (see my favorite links, below).
I run my own computer bulletin board called "The Open Channel", which is free (no donations solicited or accepted), and dedicated to the radio hobby. There are a few other conferences, including a couple of "Police Only" conferences. I have some interesting radio related files, including natural radio sounds, digital radio sounds, monitoring utilitys, as well in information files. Every month I post the "World Utility News" newsletter, which is devoted to monitoring shortwave utility stations. Soon, I'll be hooked up to the RIME network that will make hundreds of networked conferences available to users for free. Give the "Open Channel" a call at (301) 203-8478 and take a look.
