QRM from the Greek RTTY on the other sideband was easily clobbered by the signals from Sweden, as was my local mains QRM which normally makes reception impossible from dusk onwards. 73, Kevin G1HDQ. ############################################################################### From: g3kev Subject: LF: 7S6SAJ The strongest signal that I have ever heard on 136 khz. 7S6SAJ was S9 plus plus with his 210 metre high antenna. The only other signal on the band nearly as strong is MM0ALM. Who says large antennas are not necessary and have little advantage over loops or low slung long wires !!!! When EI0CF was using his work QTH antennas he was also an extremely strong signal. These stations are only using modest output rf power. Chris might be using higher power but the antenna launching the signals is the prime factor. I heard numerous UK and other EU stations calling but did not succeed in making a qso. With an antenna like that also on receive one wonders why they were not heard. In the light of this experience the chances of a transatlantic qso are nil except those interested make an effort to improve the antenna height. Increasing the rf power, although helpful is not the ANSWER. 73 de MAL/G3KEV ############################################################################### Lech Laszkiewicz Subject: LF: 7S6SAJ De G3KAU Worked Chris 7S6SAJ both ways on 136.6KHz this morning, 06/02/2000 at 0357utc. Currenty he is 40 dBmicroVolt/m here in Slow-CW, which is the strongest ham-signal I have ever heard! 7S6SAJ is "only" 45 dB weaker than DCF39 here, but he is much further away (700 something km vs. 120 km)! So well worth to give it a try over there at the other side of the big pond! Must be the case of "early bird catching the > worm" I listened in on that QSO and copied 7S6SAJ with about 529 on a 160m dipole that was buried in the trees (we had some severe storms the last couple of weeks, so all our antennas are damaged) Anyway, it was the first ever ham station to be heard on 136kHz - so it was a great inspiration. Alas, Sandy WB5MMB and I could not hear 7S6SAJ, possibly because we did not get our (technical) act together until about 0530 Zulu on 06 February. We got _excellent_ reception of DCF39 between 0600 and 0700 Zulu on 138.830 KHz (Geri, I am sending you the images separately) Indeed these efforts are well worth pursuing on this side of the "big pond" When will 7S6SAJ transmit again ? 73 Andre' N4ICK ############################################################################### From: G0MRF Thanks for being on .720 at 05.30. A pity we couldn't make the QSO. Your signal was excellent as you can imagine. The plot from spectrogram showed the AGC in my system suppressing the background noise during your transmission. I have never seen this effect on any non G station. You were, on average, just 15dB below DCF39 and showed about 10dB variation in QSB over the 15hr period. Very well done to you both. I look forward to one of the more interesting "weekend reports" Perhaps you could let us know the eventual TX pwr and antenna current along with the other details ############################################################################### From: Ulrich Gronemann Subject: 7S6SAJ Hi Christer and thanks for qsos! Unbelievable signal....up to -60dBm !! Was listening also to the pile-ups on 3577 khz. Congrats for the new country. Here could not copy anything of OM2TW, but people told me, that he called me several times, sri. Lacking in receiving - I suppose - was also a problem with that big ant at Karlsborg ?! You did not answer many stations you normally work from ur home qth. I would like to know what is ur opinion on that. Can imagine an rf-dirty region, but also intermodulation from corrosion of old ant stuff, or even blocking of receiver (that ant gives less selectivity and an improvement of efficiency of abt 15 to 20 dB). 73, Uli dj9ie ###############################################################################
