Currently we have three nodes running in Southern Illinois. They are scattered all around Souther Illinois, for better coverage. We operate on a frequency of 145.010. For people that do not know what packet is, It is a digital form of communication. About the easiest way to state it, is that it is like e-mail and bbs's over the radio waves. A brief description about our nodes is available below.

  1. S.C.A.N. Node- This node is located in the Southeastern Illinois College Building. They are letting us use their building and tower. The antenna is a four pole phased dipole about forty feet in that air. It is running about fifty watts peak envelope power, on a kantronics kpc-3 tnc.

  2. CMILL Node- This node is located at our president's house in Carrier Mills IL. There is fifty watts runnning on this packet station, with a kantronics dual port 9612.

  3. AVA Node- This node is located in AVA IL, currently their is fifty watts on this station also, the antenna is about 30 feet in the air. We also use a kpc-3 tnc on this site.

Packet is a neat form of communication. You use a tnc (similar to a modem for use with internet), and a computer to access this form of communication. The computer you use can range from the newest pentium computer to a commadore 64, or a slower pc.
