SBARC Meeting Minutes - October 5, 2004

The meeting was called to order by President Don, K2CZT, at 1904 hours local.

There were 12 members and 2 guests. The members and guests were introduced.

The minutes of the August 3, 2004, meeting were approved as shown on line. There was no September meeting due to Hurricane Frances.

Treasurer's Report - Dan, KG4DSD Balance as of August 331, 2004, was $861.35. Balance as of September 30, 2004, was $861.35. Both reports were unanimously approved.

Public Service - Joan, W4JBL The Boy Scout Food Drive is November 13. Since Marty, N4FIZ , has ALS and can no longer talk, Joan, W4JBL, has taken over the coordination of the Club hams for this important event. Details and locations will be forth coming. All hams are needed.

BEARS - Gerald, KI4BUC Received a $950,000 grant from the State to purchase a new Communications vehicle to replace aging COM ONE. During Hurricane Frances and Jeanne, ham operators did not support all of the shelters in the South EOC territory.

OLD BUSINESS

Dan, KG4DSD, suggested using FRS radios between the ham and the supervisor. This method was used successfully at the Letter Carriers' Food Drive at the Daily Bread Headquarters in May.

NEW BUSINESS

A Nomination Committee consists of Tom, KI4IS, and Frank, N4MIR. Nominations are to be presented at the November 1 meeting, and voting will be done in December.

Don, K2CZT, is helping his son start a business in North Carolina, so he will not be involved as SBARC's President for next year.

A suggestion was made to have an early run through of equipment and set up before the next Field Day. The GAP antenna is stored under Don, K2CZT's, house eves. Gene, WA2UQG, has a trailer that can handle movement of the 29' GAP antenna.

The question was raised as to the need for opening the ham shack at Daily Bread during times of emergency.

It was suggested that SBARC find a new place for our ham shack. Dan, KG4DSD, and Gerald, KI4BUC, are the committee on finding another site, possibly the Malabar Volunteer Fire Department building.

Dan, KG4DSD, suggested making our own solar panel and battery.

ANNUAL DUES for 2004-2005 were due by August 31, 2004. The dues are $10.00.

The door prize was won by Larry, KD4JRJ.

There was a $14.00 donation.

The meeting adjourned at 1959 local.
