Pictures from
Alphonse Island taken in 2005

Alphonse
Island Reef in front, then the small Bijoutier Reef and the huge St. Francois Reef in the
distance.
This is
Alphonse Island. The white and brown areas are the reef with approx.
1m of water.
This was
the antenna view when sitting on the beach in front of chalet 1
The icom
AH-4 tuner. I ran two radial wires into the Indian Ocean for good
ground and 2 more to the opposite side. It worked!
The famous
"Chalet From The Sea" picture, 2005 version. The 2000 version
made it into travel brochures. The chalets are hardly visible after 5
years due to the grown vegetation.
The Cork
Screw palm tree. There is only one like it on the entire island
A young palm
tree had to support the fiberglass mast and antenna tuner.
The view
from the veranda. Two palm trees had disappeared. See the 2000
pictures and compare.
The sunrise
as seen from the veranda of chalet 1
The chalets
have an outdoor shower. We could regularly watch the fregate birds
when taking a shower
Hermit crabs
are all over the place. This one got a really nice shell
The former
bicycle parking lot was converted into a bar (we did not mind).
The tortoise used to roam freely on Alphonse in 2000. As they became a
potential hazard for the airplanes on the runway a very large tortoise pen was created for them.
Chalet 1
again as in 2000 (coincidence?). Check the difference in vegetation
compared to the 2000 pictures!
