DX-NEWS ON AMSAT AO-40
I
would like to announce that I made my first QSO with VK1VI..Virgil from
Canberra via Amsat AO-40 satellite on the 21st of September 2002 at 18.10 utc.
After
much effort and brain storm, I was able to build a small Helix to receive the
S2 beacon which is on 2.4ghz or 2401 mhz.My tx was on 435.665mhz.To transmit I
used a 21 element x yagi RHCP.
The
Satellite as we all know went through a series of disasters after launch. My
elevation was 20 degrees, Assimuth 100 degrees and the Squint angle was 12.
The MA was 232.
I
got a report of 56 and I gave Virgil also a 56 report. The S2 beacon is on
2401.323 mhz.Telemetry can be received from this beacon. I use a Califonia
Amplifier Downconverter to convert the 2.4ghz signal to 145 mhz.
I think I am the only Ham station from the Indian Subcontinent on AO-40 satellite.
I
also like to announce that I have regular packet contacts with the ISS (Intenational
space station) RS0ISS. Have digipeated many times, using 1200 baud on the
uplink frequency of 145.990 FM and downlink through 145.800 FM.
I
also like to inform all 4S7 hams that 4S7RF
Romesh has got the call sign VK2IWU
qth Sydney.
Very
