I have a vintage, late 1950's amateur radio station.*
It basically consists of separate transmitter & receiver.
The transmitter is a 1957 Heathkit DX-20. CW only, but can
be modified for plate modulated AM. Crystal controlled or can
use a vfo. 25 to 35 watts, depending on band and load. Covers
80-40-20-15 and 10 meters. This model has a "pi" (pronounced
"pie") network in the final rf stage that will tune a load from 50 to
1000 ohms ... without a tuner! It has been gone through in as
well as out. Looks and performs nicely. Even has a very slight
"chirp" to the tone, so others know you using a homebrew, a
kit or an early piece of equipment. Still has the crystal "door"
which is very rare, hard to find. Made quite a few contacts with
an 80 meter crystal, straight key and wire dipole.
The receiver is a 1959 Hallicrafters SX-110. It is general coverage,
but has ham bands in a slide-rule type display. It was designed
to be matched with a transmitter. Surprisingly sensitive and
stable (after 1hr warm up). Effective noise reduction and a crystal
filter, that works quite well. It takes a little practice to use the
narrow bandwidth crystal filter by adjusting it's phase, and the
pitch controls. Great sounding cw tones, great am sound, and
can receive ssb, though not designed for it. Standby switch to
use with a transmitter, tone, sensitivity, antenna trimmer, and
nicely lit round and slide rule dials. ALC on this model as well
as a big s-meter too. It is all original, and looks like it just came
out of the box. You would have to see it to believe it. Manuals
are included for both radios.
You need crystals or a vfo for the transmitter, and your own key.
You also need a switch between antenna, receiver and transmitter,
like a "dow" key, or a simple 2 position antenna switch, like what I
use. Crystals are still available, and the vfo's too. You will have to
look around online. The reciever does not have a speaker, so hook
up a nice sounding one to capture this receivers full fidelity.
I will entertain reasonable offers over $150.00 for both radios. For
the right price, I will include patch cables for each radios, a manual
antenna switch, a 40 meter crystal and a german "deskcube" high
fidelity Klipsh brand speaker with connecting cable.
