Electronics
ROVARC members are instrumental in the restoration of the ship's electronic equipment, like the Mackay HF transmitter and 500 KHz emergency receiver on the right. Click here to take a visual tour of some of the vintage electronic equipment on board the SS Red Oak Victory.
Mechanical
There are an awful lot of mechanical components to be restored on this Victory ship and a dedicated group of volunteers has been hard at work in this area too. Click here to take a look at some of these things, pre- and post- restoration.
Low-Tech Communications
Besides electronics that reflected the state of the art in the 1940s, there were a lot of low-tech ways of communicating aboard the SS Red Oak Victory. The object in the photo on the right, sort of a remote controlled "gas pedal" allowed the captain to communicate from the bridge to the engine room. Click here for a tour.
Moving to New Berth
On February 26, 2005 the Red Oak was moved by tug to its new berth in the Richmond Graving Docks at the end of Canal Street. Click here for some pictures of this event.

Miscellaneous Photos
Finally, please have a look through these miscellaneous shots of the Red Oak, like the view through the port hole in the radio room - that's the San Francisco skyline that you see across the water through the typical Bay Area fog. Click here for a tour.
